SPIRITUALITY AND PROSPERITY: CAN THE TWO WALK TOGETHER ?

SPIRITUALITY AND PROSPERITY: CAN THE TWO WALK TOGETHER ?

Good news! You no longer have to choose between spirituality and prosperity. You now can have both. The devil has deceived the church long enough, making us believe that we cannot be prosperous and be spiritual at the same time.

This erroneous belief has kept the church in poverty and degradation for ages.  Instructions and teachings on business success, personal finance, and corporate economics have eluded our pulpits. In ignorance we shy away from the reality of the word of God and God’s heart and desire for us.

“Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life. Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west;  I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth; Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.” Isa 43:4-7

Listen friend, there is nothing glorious about poverty. The will of God is that our lives should bring Him glory; and that, we cannot achieve in poverty. We can have wealth, riches, health, peace, joy, family success, business exploits, fulfillment, spirituality….just name it. We can have them all!

“Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” Psalms 35:27

You can now integrate your professional life with your spiritual life and still be a great Christian. Christianity should not in any way reduce you, rather it should add to you.

While growing up, I had the privilege of giving my life to Christ early, but I turned it down, saying “Let me make money first, then I can become a Christian later” I never knew that one can succeed and make money as a Christian. The picture painted by those who were preaching to us back then didn’t encourage us. It was like, become a Christian and be poor for life. Thank God for Christ and the revelation of His word.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3John 2

Let’s look at some personalities in the Bible who walked in high level spirituality and also excelled in the market place:

Abraham for example was a friend of God who walked with God in obedience and reverence. Yet it was said of him that he was very rich.

“And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.” Gen 13:2

How did he get there?

His act of obedience and prompt response to God’s instruction validated his level of spirituality. God Himself testified of him.

“…..for now I know that thou fearest God.” Gen 22:12

This level of spirituality culminated into prosperity.

That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.” Gen 22:17-18

Another example: Job

“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.  And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.” Job 1:1-3

Another man that demonstrated high level of spirituality and yet prospered financially was Job. Job was a man who feared the Lord and hated evil. God also testified of his level of spirituality.

“And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?” Job 1:8

Friend, you can be spiritual and be prosperous at the same time. Truly spirituality and prosperity walk together.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” Psa 1:1-3
