There is one guaranteed formula for failure, and that is to allow distractions in your life. A man who is distracted has simply lost the sense of direction and focus.
Distractions are things that divert or take attention away from something. Distractions interfere with your ability to concentrate on the task at hand and give it your best.
Trying to give attention to so many things at the same time is a sure fire access to failure- even financial failure.
One of the greatest skills you can develop is the ability to say no to many good ideas in order to maintain your focus. Not managing distractions with wisdom can become a major challenge that has the potential to cripple lives and financial destinies.
There is a difference between doing something that is good and doing something that is right. The work could be a good thing to do but doing it when you’re supposed to be doing something else makes it a wrong thing to do, thereby nullifying the value of the work. We should always strive to do what is right per time.
Those who succeed financial have come to know and appreciate the power of focus. They know you can do more by doing less and that the easiest way to destroy a man is to give him another dream.
If you chase two rabbits, both will escape!
You must learn to say no to good ideas, if they will distract you from giving your attention to the right work for the hour.
The challenge most of the time is the ability to say no.
Mark Twain said, “Behold the fool saith, ‘Put not all thine eggs in one basket’- which is but a manner of saying ‘Scatter your money and your attention.’ But the wise man saith, ‘Put all your eggs in one basket and watch that basket.”
There is wisdom to learn from apostle Paul, a man of great exploits. He said, “…this one thing I do ….I press toward the mark.” Philippians 3:13-14
He was a man of one thing per time.
There is always the temptation of wanting to do a little bit of everything; this should be avoided as much as possible. Delegate and outsource some tasks that have tendency to distract your attention and focus.
Where attention goes, there life goes. Becoming focused is a key access to a world of financial success.
Vic Braden said, “Losers have tons of variety. Champions take pride in just learning to hit the same old boring winners”
Saying no to a good idea doesn’t always mean never. No may mean not right now.
The way to get ahead is by focusing, not diversifying our efforts and attention.
“So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with ashes upon his face. And as the king passed by, he cried unto the king: and he said, Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man unto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any means he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of silver. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it”. 1kings 20:38-40
He was busy here and there giving attention to too many things, and could not give attention to what he ought to give attention. As a result, he paid dearly for his lack of focus.
One of the great definitions I have heard for the word “focus” is using the word as an acronym.
The key to living a focused life is the ability to prioritize- this is the ability to regard something as most important and urgency or simply the ability to order things according to their importance and urgency.
The 80/20 Rule is one of the most helpful of all concepts of time and life management. It is also called the Pareto Principle: This rule says that 20% of your activities will account for 80% of your results. 20% of your customers will account for 80% of your sales. 20% of your products or services will account for 80% of your profits. 20% of your tasks will account for 80% of the value of what you do, and so on.
What you really need to do is to locate the 20% of your activities that will account for 80% of your financial results and focus on them. This wisdom will establish you a financial power house.
There will always be things to distract your attention; it is your responsibility to manage them effectively. Do this and become a person of focus
